India’s Wadias and France’s Danone, who both hold a stake in Indian food group Britannia, have again moved to settle their long-running dispute over intellectual property rights.
The dispute between the Wadias and Danone erupted after Britannia refused to consolidate its financials with Danone. Britannia had objected to Danone’s use of the Tiger brand name in other countries without its approval.
According to a report in Indian publication Business Standard, recent peace talks that ended in deadlock have been reopened. Negotiations are understood to be focusing on terms and conditions for Danone to use the Tiger brand.
“There are many issues involved between the two but the priority is Britannia,” a source is quoted as saying.
When contacted by just-food, Danone declined to comment on the situation or confirm that talks were underway.
