Italy’s Salov Group has launched Filippo Berio olive oil into India under a tie-up with local consumer goods firm RR Oomerbhoy.
With plans to expand into south-east Asia and the Middle East, the brand will initially be available in seven Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
Indian demand for olive oil is at 2,000 tonnes annually. Packaged at RR Oomerbhoy’s edible oil refinery at Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, two varieties – pure and extra virgin olive oil in sizes starting from 100ml – will be on offer initially. The products will be priced at INR100 (US$2.51) to 1 litre at INR700.
Mumbai-based RR Oomerbhoy expects a total turnover of around US$6m with olive oil accounting for close to half of sales.
