It has so far given clearance for 27 food parks and has spent INR20m of a budget of INR40m (US$820,000) for 25 of them. Speaking in New Delhi, the minister of state for food processing industries, Chaman Lal Gupta, has said that the parks should be operational by 2005, considering the plant and equipment required.


Gupta also asked state governments to help fund their establishment. He added that legislative reforms were being considered that would pave the way for the passage of a “modern integrated food law,” which would promote agricultural diversification and increase food processing.
