Pantaloon Retail, the Indian retailer, has confirmed that it is seeking potential acquisitions in a bid to expand its food business.

A spokesperson for the Future Group-owned retailer told just-food that the company is “considering the option” of purchasing smaller firms.


However, he added that it would be “premature” to comment on any other detail.


According to Indian reports, Kishore Biyani, founder and CEO of the Future Group, has said the retailer is in talks with “several small companies in the foods domain”.


“These are Indian companies and have a clearly demarcated role to play,” he reportedly said.
