Pantaloon, which pulled Cadbury chocolates from its stores two weeks ago, insisted the row with the UK confectioner had not led to the own-brand launch.

“This has nothing to do with the issue with Cadbury, it is just a coincidence,” said Santosh Desai, CEO of Future Brands, a division of Pantaloon owner, Future Group.

“We are test-marketing the product under the brand name Tasty Treat in our stores and will launch it in time for the Raksh Bandhan festival in August.”

Desai did not disclose details relating to sourcing and logistics of the product, but said the company has been working on the plans for some time.
