“Having identified India as a market with great potential, UB plans to manufacture and market biscuits directly in the country for the Indian market,” a spokesperson for the McVitie’s maker told just-food.

The spokesperson added that the group is still conducting “trials and market assessment” but UB does plan to set up new manufacturing facilities in Himachal Pradesh in northern India.

However, UB declined to comment on reports in India that it is set to acquire the manufacturing facility of local firm SS Food Industries, which is based in Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson was quick to quell fears that UB could be preparing to outsource UK biscuit production to India.
