PT Indofood Sukses Makmur aims to raise sales of its instant noodles by 20% this year. The world’s largest instant noodle maker sold 9.5bn packs in 2005.
In an interview with Reuters, the company’s director of noodle operations, Taufik Wiraatmadja, said Indofood’s production was steady at 200m packs a week. He added that Indofood had capacity to produce 13.5bn packs a year.
In the interview, Wiraatmadja pointed to the low per capita consumption of instant noodles in Indonesia as a reason to be optimistic. The company controls 75% of the market there.
“Our per capita consumption is only 57 packs per year, that means people only have one pack of instant noodles per week,” he said, adding the number was lower than Korea’s 70 packs a year, the country with the highest consumption globally.
