Iran has banned imports of live birds and poultry products from a number of countries, according to the BBC.

Poultry imports, from any country, can only clear customs with the presentation of a licence from the Veterinary Organisation.

Iranian television aired customs officials saying: “In view of the spread of ultra-acute bird flu in a number of countries, imports of live birds and poultry products have been banned from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, China, Vietnam, Korea and Cambodia.”

On Friday (6 January 2006) just-food reported that Vietnam, included in Iran’s banned list, is considering declaring itself free from its previous bird flu epidemic.
