Former Dunnes Stores chief operating officer Andrew Street has joined rival Irish retailer Superquinn as CEO.
Street, who was Dunnes COO for 12 years before leaving the business late last year, will join Superquinn next week.
Superquinn executive chairman Simon Burke, who has held the position since the retailer was bought by Select Retail Holdings in 2005, will become the company’s non-executive chairman. He will hand over responsibility for the day-to-day running of Superquinn, which runs 24 stores in Ireland, to Street.
Burke said Street brings a “broad range of proven management skills, a wealth of retail experience and knowledge of the Irish marketplace” to Superquinn, which, he added, “will be of great benefit to Superquinn as we continue our recovery”.
Street, who also spent 12 years at Boots, added: “These are challenging times for business in general and retail in particular but Superquinn has a great heritage with loyal customers and I am very much looking forward to working with the team to build on the great work they have been doing.”
