Fruit distributor Fyffes has reaffirmed its interest in acquisitions in the US and the Far East but has stayed mum on reports linking it to a deal in the Philippines.
The Ireland-based company is rumoured to be looking at buying Lapanday, a company reputed to be the second-largest banana exporter in the Philippines.
However, Fyffes declined to comment when contacted by just-food today (1 October).
“We’re not making any comment, this is pure speculation,” a spokesman for Fyffes said from Dublin.
“The company has made no secret of the fact that it would like to make acquisitions and that it is on the look-out in the US and the Far East.”
