Food processor Kepak is considering making a bid for Irish pork group McCarren & Co.
A spokesperson for the company told just-food that Kepak is examining McCarren as a potential takeover target and is engaged in auditing the company to establish a valuation.
“No further comment will be made until the due diligence process is completed, possibly in mid to late June,” the spokesperson said.
McCarren is a family-owned traditional pig slaughtering and curing company that claims to have a “reputation for providing new product and process solutions” that “attract some of the most highly regarded companies in the world”. The firm has been owned by the McCarren family for over five generations.
Kepak has been expanding its business through M&A and recently completed the purchase of Silvercrest – one of the facilities at the centre of the horsemeat scandal in Europe – from ABP Foods.
