“We are entering a phase-two investigation because there is a concern that competition issues might arise as both groups are involved in a number of very similar product categories,” a spokesperson for the Irish competition watchdog told just-food today (30 May).
Both Kerry and Breeo are involved in the sale and distribution of consumer foods including sausages, cheese and fresh dairy products.
The CA investigation will focus on whether the proposed deal will “substantially lessen competition”.
The anti-trust body has already completed a preliminary, “phase one” investigation but has been unable to conclude whether or not the transaction would hurt competition, the regulator said.
