Snacks giant Mondelez International plans to invest in a chocolate crumb plant in Ireland to boost efficiency and position the company for growth.
Mondelez has set out proposals to spend EUR5m (US$6.9m) on installing a new milk evaporator and new buildings to replace existing technology at its site in Rathmore.

The company said the moves would lead to a “significant reduction” in the plant’s use of fuel oil and lead to “the potential opportunity for growth in milk capacity”.
Mondelez has submitted a planning application, which, if approved, would lead to work starting in May and completed by August next year.
Head of manufacturing Ian O’Toole said: “Rathmore has a proud manufacturing heritage and we are committed to ensuring it continues. This proposed investment demonstrates confidence in our manufacturing capability.”
The crumb produced at the plant is used in the Cadbury chocolate factory in Coolock, Dublin and also exported to the United States, Canada and the UK.
