Swiss food giant Nestlé has revealed plans to close its chocolate crumb facility in Mallow, Co Cork and transfer production to Girvan, Scotland.

Ireland’s Dairygold, which supplies the facility, acted angrily to the news, threatening to challenge Nestlé in the High Court, reported the Irish Independent.

In response, Nestlé said it was disappointed with Dairygold’s reaction, saying the multinational had invited Dairygold to tender for the chocolate crumb business but the facility in Scotland had been more cost efficient.

Fifty-seven jobs are expected to be lost with the transfer of production to the similar plant in Scotland.
