Irish food retailer Superquinn is to close a store in County Kildare.
The retailer confirmed today (6 January) that the store in Naas will close on 4 February as a result of the lease on the premises expiring. The landlord, Superquinn said, wishes to now take possession of the store. Around 100 staff are reportedly employed on the premises.
“Superquinn had intended to open a store on an alternative site in Naas prior to the expiry of the current lease but, as a result of current problems in the property market, development of this site is on hold for the time being,” a spokesperson for the retailer said.
A 3- day consultation period will now begin between the company, its employees and with their trade unions.
“To minimise job losses, Superquinn will be offering affected colleagues the opportunity to redeploy within the company where possible,” it added.
