Ireland-based yogurt and milk firm Glenisk has said it will rebuild its manufacturing facility destroyed by fire this week.

The fire on Monday (27 September) at the company’s base at Killeigh in County Offaly in the Irish midlands left the facility in ruins but no one working there at the time was injured.

On its Twitter account, the family business – which specialises in organic yogurt and milk – said it was the “blackest of days”.

It added: “Devastated to confirm a serious fire at our plant today. All colleagues safely evacuated. Their well-being is our priority. We will assess the damage and move forward. Heartfelt thanks to the emergency services.”

Managing director Gerard Cleary told Irish broadcaster RTE that the destruction of the plant, which employs around 90 people, was “devastating”, and that “basically everything” had been lost.

“We’ll just have to see what we have and what we can salvage and then just start again,” he added.
