The Chamber of Commerce is fighting to lower duties, some of which have recently been raised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The average customs duty on milk and cream products is 153%; natural honey, 255%; butter and dairy spreads, 140%; and popcorn kernels, 144%, reported Globes.

The report notes that importers say the duties are “scandalous and unprecedented, immediately affecting prices for equivalent foods made in Israel. The absence of true competition against imports raises prices, with customers forced to pay the difference.”
