Reports in Germany have said Barilla has appointed advisors in Frankfurt to look into a possible sale of a company it bought in 2002 for EUR1.8bn (US$2.6bn).

However, Barilla refused to be drawn on the reports when contacted by just-food today (18 February). “It is a rumour and we do not comment on rumours,” a Barilla spokesperson said.

Just three months ago, Barilla settled its ownership dispute with Italian bank Banco Popolare over the acquisitions of Kamps and French baker Harry’s.

Barilla agreed to buy Banco Popolare’s stakes in Kamps and Harry’s for EUR434m.

The deal will also see Barilla buy the stakes that Dutch foundation Stichting Bakery Finance owned in Kamps and Harry’s.

Under the deal, Barilla will repay two loans to a Banco Popolare bank worth EUR70m and the redemption of a further EUR57m loan.
