The sale, to a group of Piedmont-based businessmen, was for a reported EUR188,000 (US$1.17m).
Granarolo acquired the brand in March 2005 from the Yomo Group. The news comes six months after the company announced plans to close its Sermoneta and Acqui Terme plants. Both produce cheese for the Merlo brand.
Bologna-based Granarolo processes fresh pasteurised milk and is a leader in the production of organic dairy products.
