Following a meat mislabelling scandal, Nippon Meat this week took drastic action to restore consumer confidence. Chairman and founder Yoshinori Ohkoso is stepping down to become honorary chairman, while his son Hiroji Ohkoso will be demoted from president to senior managing director (for more news on the action Nippon Meat is taking, click here.)

Aeon is Japan’s second largest retailer, and the news is likely to lead a surge of retailers willing to restock their shelves with Nippon Meat products.

Nippon Meat shares responded positively to the news, despite indications by an Internet poll conducted by Japan’s Kyodo News on Tuesday. The poll showed that 76% percent of 713 respondents felt the disciplinary measures taken by Nippon Meat on Tuesday were insufficient and they still distrust the company.
