The Japanese government has endorsed a programme designed to protect consumers from food-borne illnesses and retail disputes.


Earlier today [Tuesday] ministers taking part in the Consumer Protection Conference approved the programme, which includes proposals for the introduction of a system to track cows through the production and distribution process, in a bid to allay fears about mad cow disease, and the establishment of methods for consumers to settle disputes about international online shopping, without the need for a court case.
