A series of food scares including tainted milk and mad cow disease has helped turn an already famously finicky nation towards specialist delivery services who are seeing sales nearly double year on year.


Online Tokyo firm Oisix, which specialises in sourcing traceable products from small to medium size farms across Japan and selling them through the internet, posted sales of JPY2.8bn (US$2.38m) for the end of fiscal 2005. Established in 2000 the company’s first-year sales reached JPY78bn.
