JAPAN: Grilled beef party hopes to restore public confidence in meat
A grilled beef (yakiniku) party was held on Monday by the Kanagawa prefectural government in Japan and livestock farming groups in a bid to restore public confidence in beef. Since the official confirmation that BSE had entered the national herd, sales in beef have dropped off severely. In the Kanagawa Prefecture, the number of cattle slaughtered between September and December last year dropped by 37.4% year on year.

Those organising the event provided free sliced beef for 2,000 people from one cow raised in the prefecture.
