The Japanese Government has revealed that July retail sales declined by 1.3% from June due, in part, to a long rainy season that kept shoppers at home.

Rainfall in Japan’s eight largest cities in July was 1.6 times the average rainfall recorded for the previous month.
“Bad weather was the biggest factor dragging down sales,” said Takahide Arai, a trade ministry spokesman.
