Japan’s largest seafood supplier, Maruha Corp, has said it will increase its stake in seafood wholesaler Osaka Uoichiba Co to around 15% from 10.5%.

Maruha said the deal is part of a business tie-up aimed at helping the two companies to compete more effectively against overseas competitors in the seafood market and to improve domestic sales channels, reported Kyodo News.
The two companies will also consider the possibility of merging some of Osaka Uoichiba’s operations with those of three Maruha affiliate seafood wholesalers.
