The Japan Franchise Association has revealed that on a same store basis, convenience store November sales dropped 1% from last year. The industry group blamed nationwide poor weather for the downtrend in sales, as numbers of customers fell 0.2% on 1999 and demand for picnic items remained low.

Stores that have only recently opened fared somewhat better, however, as the association recorded a 4.7% rise in sales to ¥524.7bn.
