Japanese soy sauce producer Kikkoman Corp. has posted rising first-quarter sales and earnings thanks mainly to overseas sales.

Kikkoman said today (30 July) that net income for the three months to the end of June reached JPY3.1bn (US$26.2m), up 4.7% on the year. The rise in profits came as turnover rose 8.1% to JPY99.8bn.

Kikkoman said its soy sauce business in Japan had “struggled” but that “robust sales” in North America had buoyed its first-quarter figures.

The company said it also performed “strongly” in Europe, Asia and Oceania.
