Japanese seasoning and processed food maker Ajinomoto has purchased the remaining 25% in its Russian joint venture, Ajinomoto Genetika Research Institute (AGRI), for ¥43m (US$365,000) in order to turn it into a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Ajinomoto and the Russian Genetics Research Institute set up the joint venture in 1998, with the aim of studying and developing new technology for the production of amino acids used in seasoning and animal feed, reported the Japanese News Digest.


Ajinomoto expects to cut production costs and develop new products by taking advantage of Russian biotechnology with the purchase.
