Japanese convenience store chain Seven-Eleven now operates more than 10,000 outlets in Japan, local media reports have said.

The company, which is Japan’s largest convenience store chain, bought the US 7-Eleven franchise in 1991. The first Seven-Eleven outlet in Japan was opened in 1974.


On Sunday Seven-Eleven Japan reportedly opened 18 new outlets, bringing the total number of Seven-Eleven outlets in Japan to 10,002, reported the Associated Press.


Japan’s second-largest convenience store chain is Lawson, which operates around 7,600 outlets. Family Mart is next in line with 6,000 stores.
