Godiva chocolate owner Campbell Soup Co. has admitted the recall of certain Christmas chocolates in Asia and Europe is “not ideal” in the run-up to the festive season.

Campbell has recalled the gift packs after discovering metal in boxes on sale in Japan. The chocolates – containing Christmas Milk Caramel Carre chocolate squares – were made in France and Campbell has decided to recall the entire batch.
“We’re just focused on making sure we get the products recalled, that consumers know other Godiva products are safe and that safety is important to us,” a Campbell spokesman told just-food from the company’s US headquarters. “As the Christmas season is upon us, this is not an ideal time.”
Godiva is a buoyant business for Campbell, which saw sales from the division rise in the double-digits during the three months to 28 October.
Nonetheless, Campbell is looking to focus more on its soups, sauces and beverage brands and has hinted that Godiva could be sold.
