In North America, Seven & I’s convenience business 7-Eleven has confirmed it will eliminate 200 jobs, or 10% of its non-store workforce in the US and Canada.

The company declined to comment on the savings it expects this move to generate.

Meanwhile, in Japan the retailer has extended the reach of its 800-plus private-label product line to all of its large food outlets – mostly in department stores such as Sogo in Yokohama and Hiroshima.

All Seibu and Sogo department stores are to eventually have private-label sections except Sogo Osaka which, after posting heavy losses, will now be sold to J. Front Retailing Co., operator of Daimaru and Matsuzakaya department stores.
