Japanese convenience store operator FamilyMart plans to open outlets in the US, according to a report.
The company plans to be the first Japanese convenience store operator to open stores in the US, with the launch of a franchise chain around Los Angeles and also along the East Coast. Around 200 stores are planned for each region, Dow Jones News reports, citing a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
FamilyMart also plans to build distribution centres and food processing facilities in the US to deliver products to the chain’s outlets.
The company plans to build some upscale stores in residential areas where many Japanese and Japanese-Americans live.
