Japanese restaurant chain Global-Dining has said it is interested in setting up a joint venture with US doughnut firm Krispy Kreme to bring the doughnut chain to Japan.
Global-Dining’s chief financial officer, Michael Nishi, said top executives from the company had been invited to the US earlier this year for talks with Krispy Kreme.
“We are interested in working with Krispy Kreme in Japan, but we have not heard from the US company since I met them in February. Therefore, we don’t know what will happen,” Nishi was quoted by Reuters as saying.
Krispy Kreme has held talks with Global-Dining on and off for two years. However, Nishi said Krispy Kreme has also held talks with other Japanese firms. Last year Krispy Kreme was rumoured to be in talks with McDonald’s Japan over a joint venture there.
