Completion is expected by the end of December.

Mosso presently accounts for 6% of the Polish mayonnaise market, making it the fourth-largest local player. It also produces ketchup, mustard and other sauces, has a staff of 147 and reported net sales of JPY2.38bn (US$22.8m) in 2015. The purchase price was not disclosed.

In a statement, Kewpie said it has been “accelerating” its growth in China and south-east Asia, has entered the North American market and gained a foothold in Europe in August 2015 through the opening of Kewpie Trading Europe, in Amsterdam.

“Mosso is a popular mayonnaise brand in Poland and, through the acquisition of this brand, production base and sales channels in Eastern Europe, we aim to speed up our European expansion,” said Kewpie.
