J&J Snack Foods Corp booked a "modest" rise in full-year sales and operating earnings but net income was down in the period.

The company said sales rose to US$976m in the 12 months to 26 September, up from $919m last year. Operating income was up at $110.9m versus $106.8m in fiscal 2013/14.

Net earnings, however, were dented by a post-tax investment loss in the fourth quarter. Net earnings fell to $70.1m from $71.8m, the US snack maker revealed.

Looking to the coming year, president and CEO Gerald Shreiber said: "Our sales so far in the first quarter of our 2016 fiscal year continue to run at only modest increases compared to last year. We have several new product launches in the works that we believe will generate sales over the course of our new year."
