Kellogg has announced its latest cut to the sugar in the Coco Pops cereal on sale in the UK.

The US group has reduced the sugar in its core Coco Pops line by 14%, meaning there is 9g of sugar in a 30g portion of the cereal.

Asked how Kellogg has lowered the amount of sugar in the cereal and maintained the taste of the product, the company said: “Our innovation team has worked hard, using the highest quality ingredients, to develop a food that has less sugar, without compromising on taste. It takes a lot of testing to get it right, but we will only bring foods to market with lower sugar that people love.”

The reduction in sugar, which included a change to the coating of a Coco Pop, each pack weighs less than before.

“The 550g box now weighs 510g but the number of Coco Pops per box has increased from approximately 14,500 to 16,500. That’s a 15% increase,” the spokesperson said.

Kellogg made national headlines in 2010 when it announced a cut to the sugar in all of the products in the Coco Pops range then on sale in the UK.
