Japanese noodle giant Nissin Foods Holdings will open a noodle production facility in Kenya in partnership with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology.
The KES500m (US$5.8m) site will come under the auspices of a newly-registered private company JKUAT/Nissin Foods Ltd.

When complete, the plant is expected to produce 70,000 packets of noodles using locally sourced ingredients including sorghum, JKUAT said.
JKUAT/Nissin Foods Ltd offers instant noodles in Kenya at a per-pack price of KES0.30. These are currently supplied by Nissin’s Indian subsidiary.
Nissin recently opened its third Indian noodle factory in a bid to meet demand in what it described as a “high growth” market.
The Janapese firm has targeted overseas sales of JPY100bn (US$959.2m) by 2015 and is expanding rapidly in emerging markets.
