Kraft Heinz has decided to keep open a site in the US it had earmarked for closure last year.

The company’s factory in Fullerton in California has avoided being axed under the US food giant’s plans to restructure its manufacturing network in North America. Last November, Kraft Heinz announced plans to close seven plants in the US and Canada, including the facility in Fullerton.

The plant, which was built in 1972, is one of three that makes Lunchables meals. “This announcement means so much to our people,” plant manager Frank Woodson said. “Our employees in Fullerton take great pride in their work and have a strong track record for producing high-quality products.”

Patrick Kelly, secretary treasurer and principal officer at the Teamsters Local 952 union, said: “We are very thankful that Kraft Heinz has reconsidered its decision to close and will keep the plant open. Our membership, many who have worked at the plant for decades, are thrilled to be able to remain employed with Kraft Heinz.”
