French group Labeyrie Fine Foods has announced the acquisition of Belgian firm Père Olive and Dutch company King Cuisine to expand its reach in “gourmet snacking”.

King Cuisine specialises in ready meals and also manufactures products including dips and olives. Pere Olive packages and sells Mediterannean olives. The company claims to be “the leader” in the fresh olive market in Europe.

The companies were owned by the Menissez Industrial Bakery Group, a spokesperson for Labeyrie told just-food today (26 February).

“These two companies will allow LFF to strengthen the gourmet snacking market,” he added.

Labeyrie said the acquisition of the companies was part of the group’s development strategy, of which it has made “several” since last January.

In November, Labeyrie announced it would take a 50% stake in trout supplier Aqualande. A month earlier it announced it was taking a majority stake in local snack maker Sales Sucres.
