Labeyrie Fine Foods, the French manufacturer, has set out shut a factory in its domestic market in order to boost the competitiveness of that part of its business.

The company’s Delpierre subsidiary is to proposing to close its salmon-processing plant in Wisches in north-eastern France during the first quarter of next year, one of five factories the subsidiary has in the country.

Jobs at the Wisches facility, where 150 staff work on a permanent basis, will move to a plant in Fecamp in north-western France and a site in Saint Geours de Maremnes in the south west of the country.

The company said the overall market in France for salmon was in decline, while there is fierce competition among own-label suppliers, a part of the category that accounts for the majority of production at Wisches. Other French processors had sought to move some production to Poland, Delpierre noted.

“This is the result of the continued decline in business and the choice of the company to maintain our production in France: focus investment and remain competitive,” a spokesperson for Delpierre said.

“Priority is given to employees, both for those who decide to move to the other sites and for those who prefer to find a job on the basin of the Bruche Valley with support to find a job .
