French dairy cooperative Laita has been granted an export licence to ship infant formula to the Chinese market.

The dairy group said its subsidiary, Even Santé Industrie, has obtained clearance to start exports of infant formula to China. The company revealed that approval was granted in late September upon completion of a “demanding audit” of its activities.

“This official recognition will enable Even Santé Industrie to develop the Chinese market for liquid infant nutrition,” Laita said.

The company added the approval sends a “positive signal” for its strategy to grow in China. Laita is building a new production facility in Créhen in north-west France. The site will have capacity to manufacture 20,000 tons of infant formula cans for general export, and the company intends to “particularly” target Chinese demand.

Laita initially entered China in 2014 via its subsidiary Paysan Breton. Paysan Breton launched a selection of its dairy products under the Bai Shang name in the market.
