Lebanese dairy firm, Liban Lait, a franchisee of French brand Candia (Sodiaal group) has begun re-building work on its plant, situated in the heart of the Bekaa valley, which was destroyed by Israeli bombs last July.

With an annual capacity of 20 million-litres, the plant produced fresh and UHT milk as well as a range of traditional Lebanese yogurts and Candia cheeses.

Liban Lait has received US$10m in funding from the Lebanese government and a further US$5m from an Arab investment fund towards the reconstruction of the plant which is expected to re-enter service at its normal capacity by the end of the year.
