The Libyan government has agreed to donate US$9.3m to a UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) project to finance agricultural projects in neighbouring Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad and the Sudan.

The projects are aimed at advancing agricultural production in these and countries.
Meanwhile, the FAO is to help Libya run a scheme developing seeds and propagation material to modernise the oil-rich north African country’s own agriculture sector. The aim, said an FAO statement, was “to enhance the organisation, promotion and diffusion of massive seed production through the development of seed policy, legislation, regulation and standards”.
Libya has committed $11.8m and 1.3 million Libyan dinars ($1.08m) to this scheme.
