Lotus Bakeries has struck a deal in ice cream with global major Froneri and snacks giant Mondelez International.

UK-headquartered Froneri, which manufactures ice cream under licence for snacks companies including Mondelez, will produce Lotus Biscoff-branded ice cream.

Starting next year, Froneri will handle the production, marketing and distribution of the ice cream in several European countries, with more markets planned for 2027 and 2028.

Biscoff ice cream is produced by a third-party co-manufacturer, though details of that arrangement remain confidential, Lotus Bakeries told Just Food.

The company said teaming up with Froneri allows it to “fully focus on cookies and spread,” while Biscoff Chocolate and Biscoff Ice Cream serve as “brand amplifiers”.

In a statement, Lotus Bakeries said ice cream, launched internationally in 2019, has “significantly” contributed to Biscoff’s growth. Biscoff ice cream products are available in Europe, Australia and the US.

Lotus Bakeries CEO Jan Boone said: “Partnering with Froneri will unlock new opportunities for Biscoff, allowing us to leverage their extensive expertise in product development, market insights, and industry-leading knowledge.

“This collaboration will strengthen our position in the ice cream sector, enabling Biscoff to grow into a global ice-cream brand.”

Belgium-based Lotus Bakeries described the contract as a “sub-licence agreement” under its own deal with Mondelez, which the two companies announced last year.

That deal covers the production and sale of Biscoff cookies in India and the launch of new chocolate products combining Biscoff with Mondelēz’s chocolate brands.

In 2024, Lotus Bakeries recorded nearly 16% growth, with group revenue rising to €1.23bn ($1.33bn).

The Biscoff brand, which contributes 56% of the company’s branded revenue, grew by over 20% in 2024, adding €100m in sales and surpassing the €600m revenue mark.
