Higher charges have hit MamaMancini's second-quarter bottom line resulting in a higher loss for the first half of its financial year.

For the six months ended 31 July, the meatball maker recorded a loss of US$2m compared with a loss of $1.5m last year.

The firm reported an operating loss of $1.6m compared with negative $1.4m on the back of higher operating costs and cost of sales.

Sales increased to $6.1m compared with $4.8m.

MamaMancini's said for the second quarter net losses were higher at $1m compared with $793,300 as a result of a one off legal cost for non-operating financing activities, and an increase in non-operating expenses.

For the second quarter the firm posted an operating loss of $762,900 compared with $766,600.
