OSI Group, the US meat supplier, has revealed that it has acquired local peer Rose Packing Co. for an undisclosed sum.

Both businesses are based in Illinois.

OSI Group said the acquisition of Rose, which makes pork products for foodservice and retail customers, “provides new capabilities and significant growth potential”.

A fifth generation, family-owned business, Rose operates a Chicago production facility with more than 700 employees.

Kevin Scott, senior executive vice president, OSI North America, said: “This transaction brings together two long-time leaders in the food industry, and we are excited to have Rose join the OSI Group,

“Strategically, the Rose acquisition complements our existing business and directly supports our growth strategy by providing new processing capabilities, additional capacity, and a strong sales presence in attractive channels.”

Rose Packing chief executive officer Dwight Stiehl, along with his management team, will remain with the company and work with the OSI leadership on post-transaction integration.

He said: “I look forward to working closely with OSI as Rose becomes part of the larger OSI Group. This is a great fit because Rose and OSI share a commitment to excellence and the importance of strong business relationships. Between the two organisations we’re proud to possess
more than two centuries of expertise in the meat industry with deep roots in Chicago.”

OSI, which has more than 65 facilities in 18 countries and territories. is acquiring all of Rose Packing’s assets as part of the transaction.
