Mexico is taking measures to try to control an outbreak of low pathogenic bird flu in the northern part of the country.

Jose Angel del Valle, director general of animal health for the agriculture ministry, said precautionary measures, such as slaughtering infected birds and quarantining others, were being taken after the disease was discovered on farms during March, reported Reuters.
US meat processor Tyson Foods, which participated in the Mexican government’s operation to contain the disease, said there had been no significant impact on its operations.
“We and other poultry producers have been working cooperatively with the Mexican government to eradicate this disease,” Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson was quoted by Reuters as saying, adding that only a small percentage of the company’s birds in Mexico have been affected.
