Mexico’s agriculture ministry said that with the New Jersey ban, Mexico does not now accept poultry imports from ten US states because of bird flu concerns, reported Reuters.

Mexico already has bans on imports of poultry from California, Connecticut, Delaware, North Carolina, Maine, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

US officials have said the strain of bird flu discovered in recent US outbreaks is not believed to be transmissible to humans and is therefore less dangerous than the H5N1 strain currently affecting parts of Asia.
