Mondelez International has switched its Triscuit cracker brand to the Non-GMO Verified certification in the US.

The snacks group said today (7 August) consumer demand had prompted the move. It pointed to data from market researchers The Hartman Group from this year, which it said showed “more than half of Americans [are] looking for non-GMO food and beverages”.

Mondelez has co-operated on the move with US non-profit the Non-GMO Project, which provides the certification for companies looking to make the switch. The manufacturer has worked to source oil and seasonings that meet the certification.

Kailey Clark, brand manager for Triscuit in North America, claimed “the Non-GMO Project Verified seal is the gold standard”. Clark added: “It is the most trusted label among consumers, and we are proud to offer that level of product transparency to Triscuit customers.”

Triscuit Cracker boxes bearing the seal started rolling out to retailers nationwide in late July, with the full product line expected to follow suit by the end of September.
