Montezuma's launched in the UK in 2000 and sells its range of bars and truffles through its own stores in London and the South East, online and through retailers including Waitrose and Selfridges.

Montezuma’s co-founder, Helen Pattinson, said: "This is a significant international deal for us and we are excited to be introducing our products to the American market. We are particularly pleased to be working with Trader Joe’s as its ethical stance and overarching ethos is very akin to our own; we both strive to ensure that we offer innovative and interesting products to customers."

The chocolate maker said it is expected the initial deal will develop into a longer-term relationship and potential licensing opportunities for Trader Joe's.
